Few Barbadians or Amerindians have been aware of the close connection between Barbados and the Carolinas- of the exploration of the Carolina coast by the Barbados Adventurers, of the part played in the settlement of Charles Town in 1670, and the intimate links of the next 100 years.
Increasing interest in the subject by the Barbados Board of Tourism culminated in an invitation to the authors to visit Charleston in 1985 to research historical and possible architectural links.
The Barbados-Carolina Connection is the fruit of that visit and a great deal of further work. It reveals many fascinating aspects of the historical relationship between Barbados and Carolina, throwing fresh light on the history and architecture of both places, on the people (both distinguish and notorious) and on the dialect.
