International travel, expeditions, hiking and trekking exploits to Hong Kong SAR.

From 1841 to 1997 Hong Kong was a British Colony.

At midnight on 1st July 1997 Hong Kong was returned to the People’s Republic of China and was renamed Hong Kong SAR (Special Administrative Region). Under the “One Country, Two Systems” principle, Hong Kong SAR is part of China but retains its own systems and way of life for 50 years.

The One Country, Two Systems” principle is set to expire in 2047.  With the passage of time and the passing of the National Security Law by Hong Kong SAR on 30th June 2020, the USA and UK have condemned the Chinese government of seriously breaching the “One Country, Two Systems” principle.  The reality is that today, Hong Kong SAR is just another Chinese city.
