Run Barbados 2015, kicks off on the weekend of Dec. 4 – 6, is set to be bigger and better in 2015 with…

When this press release was circulated every runner who took part in the Run Barbados events was very happy. Under the previous administration it was dying a slow death. It will regain its place as the premier running event in Barbados and the Caribbean.

Run Barbados caters to the elite runners, those going for their PB, as well as those who are not worried about how fast the rest of the field goes. Over the years it has attracted a wide cross section of professional and weekend runners from across the globe.

Life is good when you can run a 10K and smile after.
Life is good when you can run a 10K and smile after.

I have enjoyed  it a few times taking part in  the Marathon, the 10K and midnight mile. Even the slowest runners feel like they are special when they struggle past the finishing line. There is always someone who you can have your private race with.

The response and encouragement from the spectators along the course is always positive, and welcomed by the athletes. It is  a good feeling when you turn onto Bay Street pass The Boatyard and see the 1Km  marker. Now is the time to go  faster as the finish is in sight. But leave a bit of speed for the cameras at the finish line!

The shorter races take place in the evening and the Marathon and Half Marathon early in the morning so as to miss the heat of the day. The start and the finish are on Bay Street in front of the government headquarters buildings and a few meters from the ocean where many runners go to relax after the run.

Run Barbados is the event to reward yourself for your 2015 running year or to start training for the 2016 season. Join us in December for one or more of the events. Barbados is much warmer than Scotland in December!

UPDATE

Run Barbados 2015

“There will be a Schools team competition in the 5K Run.  The minimum number of runners per team will be six and the top four times posted by each school will be noted. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams.

Run Barbados representatives will be available to visit the school on a pre-arranged date (possibly in lunch hour) to provide entry forms and collect entry fees.

Ahead of race day registration packages including the event T-shirt and race bibs for timed races will be delivered to the school for all students entered.

Please note that the 5K Walk/Run is supporting the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Barbados (HSFB). With this in mind it is our hope that schools will not only encourage their athletes to take part in the races but that other students will be encouraged to attend the 5K Walk with family and friends. “
